Do You Speak Visual?

To speak visually is to express one’s self without words. This rudimentary definition is what drives me as an artist. I have always strived to communicate deep and thought provoking subject matter without the use of words; solely achieving this effect through digital illustration. When this contest was announced, I began to conceptualize what it meant to speak visually with this submission. In iconographic terms I wanted to achieve a “writing of the image” so to speak. With this thought in mind, I began my work, my only intent was to provoke the viewer to analyze and question the artwork. When one questions art, they can truly assess meaning and verbalize thoughts. This is the basic idea of speaking visually, as I must express myself and others must view and “read” my work.

The whole world inspires my art, whether it is animals, the outdoors, color, or designs. I love to draw new things and in this piece I tried to express what really inspires me. I love to take a blank canvas and then in a few hours have it turn into something completely different. This piece is the perfect example of speaking visually. How I wanted it to look, is that the person in this piece is an artist and the ideas are simply pouring out of her head. I had so much fun making this piece because all the colors really stand out and it reminds me of what’s going through my head when I make a drawing.
